About me

I am a literacy specialist, structured reading coach, and passionate advocate or every child's right to become a confident reader

28-Year Classroom Veteran · IMSE & UFLI Certified · 2x Teacher of the Year

With 28 years in the elementary classroom and two Teacher of the Year awards — one in Indian River County and one in Brevard County — I have spent my career doing one thing: helping children become confident, capable readers.
I am trained in IMSE (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) and UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute), both of which are Orton-Gillingham based approaches grounded in the science of reading. That means every session I teach is structured, systematic, and proven — not guesswork.
I started Thompson Literacy & Learning because I believe every child deserves a specialist in their corner. Whether your child is slightly behind, significantly struggling, or navigating a diagnosis like dyslexia, I know how to meet them where they are and move them forward. Reading changes everything, and it is never too late to build that foundation right.
I hold certifications through IMSE (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) and UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) — two of the most respected structured literacy programs in the country, both rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach and backed by decades of reading science. I have been honored as Teacher of the Year in both Indian River County and Brevard County, but the recognition I am most proud of is when a child looks up from a page and realizes, for the first time, that reading is something they can do.

How I can help your child

Every child I work with gets a plan built specifically for them – not a one-size-fits-all worksheet, but real, intential instruction grounded in how the brain learns to read.

One-on-One Tutoring

Personalized, systematic sessions using IMSE and UFLI methods proven to work for all learners — including students with dyslexia and IEPs.

— 02

Initial Reading Assessment

Before we begin, I find out exactly where your child stands — what’s working, what’s missing, and what we tackle first. This shapes every session that follows.

Take-Home Practice Materials

Learning doesn’t stop when our session ends. Every student receives materials to reinforce skills at home so progress continues all week long.
