Structured literacy for grades K-2

Every child can become a confident reader

Structured literacy tutoring for grades K-2, rooted in the science of reading

Does your child struggle with...

01.

Reading below grade level

Many bright children fall behind simply because they haven’t been taught to read the way their brain learns best. With the right structured approach, catching up is absolutely possible.

02.

Sounding out words / decoding

If your child guesses at words, skips lines, or avoids reading aloud, they may be missing foundational decoding skills. We build those skills from the ground up — systematically and confidently.

03.

Comprehension & fluency

Reading the words is only half the battle. When fluency is a struggle, comprehension suffers too. Sessions focus on building the speed, accuracy, and understanding every reader needs to thrive.

04.

Dyslexia or IEP support needs

Dyslexia is not a barrier to becoming a strong reader — it just means your child needs a specialist. Using IMSE and UFLI methods, sessions are specifically designed for the way students with dyslexia learn best.

How Thompson Literacy & Learning helps

— 01

One-on-One
Tutoring

Every session is built around your child — their specific strengths, gaps, and learning pace. Using evidence-based structured literacy methods rooted in the science of reading, we target exactly what your child needs most.

— 02

Initial Reading
Assessment

Before we begin, we find out exactly where your child stands. A comprehensive literacy and reading assessment identifies the specific skills that need support and shapes a personalized learning plan from day one.

— 03

Stage Shows
& Talks

Progress doesn’t stop when the session ends. Every student receives custom practice materials to reinforce skills at home — keeping momentum going between sessions and giving parents a window into what we’re working on.

An amazing relationship leads to ut labore et dolore magnam etiam.

About me

28-Year Classroom Veteran · IMSE & UFLI Certified · 2x Teacher of the Year

I am trained in IMSE (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) and UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute), both of which are Orton-Gillingham based approaches grounded in the science of reading. That means every session I teach is structured, systematic, and proven — not guesswork.
I started Thompson Literacy & Learning because I believe every child deserves a specialist in their corner. Whether your child is slightly behind, significantly struggling, or navigating a diagnosis like dyslexia, I know how to meet them where they are and move them forward. Reading changes everything, and it is never too late to build that foundation right.
